Since the Discover Mongolia 2013 inaugural breakfast meeting, WIM Mongolia has been expanding with over 200 LinkedIn group members, 100 twitter followers as well as growing our presence on our Facebook page.
We would like to welcome a new member to our Advisory Council, Prof. Bolor Naranhuu, Professor of Economics at Sheridan Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. During the last couple of months, we’ve been partnering with leading Mongolian and Canadian companies such as TemugeLaw LLC, YMC LLC, MDJ Capital Inc., and Cover Mongolia. Furthermore, WIMM is working on the process of registration in 2014. We are developing the Board of Directors and the CEO’s executive team. We are passionately following Mongolia and related news. Please find them at www.wimmongolia.org under “News”. You’ll find our updated organizational news as well as Mongolian-voiced news from selected sources. We would like to thank everyone for their support, collaboration and cooperation. We wish you Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas & all the best for a Happy New Year in 2014! An inaugural breakfast meeting of WIM Mongolia was held during Discover Mongolia 2013 on September 6th at Rosewood Kitchen & Enoteca, Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
I would like to thank Bulgan Altangerel for organizing and choosing a great spot for our first meeting. I’m inspired and grateful for the commitment by the women that participated in our initial discussion of WIMM’s Vision, Mission, & Values. Further, we exchanged our knowledge and experiences in this new developing industry. Special thanks to: Bulgan Altangerel, Partner at YMC LLC Temuulen Johnson, Global Health Research Program Manager at University of Michigan Nomindari Goulden, Founder, WomensTaxi.Org Bolor Erdene, Senior Advisor at Oyu Tolgoi LLC Isabel Cane, Research Manager, Centre for Social Responsibility in Mining, Sustainable Institute at the University of Queensland. On my end, it is very vital to work on the funding plan of the organization. I expressed my views on creating an Impact Investment Fund to sustain and implement WIMM’s purpose. I am very delighted and honored to introduce our Advisory Council's Members, Dr. Graeme Hancock, President and Chief Representative at Anglo American, Mongolia and Ambassador Greg Goldhawk, Canada's second resident Ambassador in Mongolia. I would like to welcome them to WIMM!!!
We have a co-founder in Mongolia. Her name is Tumenbayar Nyamaa, Partner, Managing Director at TemugeLaw (http://www.temugelaw.com/). Ms. Tume has extensive experience in the mining sector both internationally and in Mongolia. Internationally, she worked at IFC, EBRD, and at the Mongolian Embassy in Washington DC. She is thrilled to be part of WIM Mongolia. I met her during negotiations at Erdenes TT, a coking coal mining company that I worked for in Mongolia. As a lawyer, Ms. Tume will be the main contact based in Mongolia. She will also help the organization in registering in Mongolia.
WIM Mongolia – 5 YEAR Action Plan:
Please see below the details of the plan: We have three target markets to build the above mentioned network/relationship: 1. Mongolian women in Mongolia 2. Expat/Foreign women in Mongolia 3. Mongolian/Foreign women abroad We've decided on a monthly rotational event: 1. Lunch meeting - "Bring your Own Lunch Brown Bag" 2. Social evening event - "Getting to know you over wine" These two monthly interchangeable events will be launched from September 2013!!!! Additionally, I've mentioned that there is a great report done by the World Bank in Mongolian language: "2013 МОНГОЛ УЛС: УУЛ УУРХАЙН САЛБАРТ ЭМЭГТЭЙЧҮҮДИЙН ОРОЛЦООГ НЭМЭГДҮҮЛЭХ НЬ" which means: 2013 Mongolia - How to Increase Participation of the Mongolian Woman Workforce in the Mining Sector! Since, the report explains the problems; WIM Mongolia could find a solution to these problems/challenges. For instance: 1. Award: The Best Mining Companies to Work for Women in Mongolia based on the best practices to Attract, Hire, Retain, and Advance Women! 2. Exchange program 3. Leadership development Within the exchange and leadership program, we’ve touched subjects like: WIM Mongolia and Abroad/International. We’ve talked about either quarterly or semi-yearly events to organize around the world. Thus, we’ve decided to have events during major events in 4-5 major cities/countries: 1. Toronto, Canada – PDAC, March 2. London, UK 3. Hong Kong, China 4. Australia 5. Singapore These are the five major countries where Mongolian companies are raising their money either on the stock exchanges or through private equity and /or debt market. |
