A longstanding and respected advocate for gender equality in Australia and internationally and former head of the Australia-Mongolia Parliamentary Friendship Group, Ambassador  Dr. Sharman Stone visited Ulaanbaatar in May 3-6, 2017.

Her visit coincided with celebrations of the 45th anniversary of Australia-Mongolia diplomatic relations. During her three days work in Ulaanbaatar, the Ambassador participated in a round-table discussion “The Role of Women in Leadership” held at the Ministry of Foreign Relations.

She also met with Mongolian parliamentarians, businesswomen, and civil society leaders, including 2 representatives of WIM Mongolia, to discuss women’s empowerment, gender equality and eliminating the gender-based violence.

We appreciate your strong standing for global women and girls, dear Dr. Stone!

In March 2017, Women in Mining organizations from Singapore, Mongolia, Philippines and British Columbia, Canada, have partnered to organize the Women in Mining Day during Mining Investment Asia 2017 which was held in Singapore.

It was the first regional panel to relook the issues related to gender diversity and inclusion in the mining industry within the Asia Pacific region. With ever increasing proportion of women in the extractive industries around the world, it is becoming more frequent for the industry professionals to gather and discuss the issues faced by women in this conventionally male dominated sector and recognize the achievements of women
 – miners.

WIM Mongolia is looking forward to the next international Women in Mining Day!
